THE
PHG
PROJECT –
A Study and
Discussion Group
Gestalt
Therapy: Excitement and
Growth in the Human Personality,
by Perls, Hefferline and
Goodman – A Study and Discussion Group based on the seminal
text in
Gestalt therapy.
Many of us hunger to revisit this seminal text
together. Students and practitioners engaging in a collective
exploration of this book's passionate radicalism.
Dialogue, disputation,
clarification and a fresh look at Gestalt
Therapy in the twenty-first
century
— what do you think?
What structure for group study
best serves us,
best serves Gestalt therapy?
- Discussion/Forum
Format Limited
Forums can be structured to suit the participants'
wishes. For example, an organized study group that is
"closed"
once the discussion starts, with a start date and end date.
The topics could be
predetermined — for example, the chapters and
subheadings of the book as the topics of discussion. All discussions would be made
available for those outside the "class" to
read.
- Discussion/Forum Format: Open-ended
Anyone can read and respond to the discussion. The topics or
"threads" determined
by the interests of the Forum participants.
- What
kind of facilitation is best? One leader? A
facilitator who
guides the
discussion? A "managing" facilitator who invites guest
facilitators for
each chapter of Volume 1 of PHG? No leader or
facilitator? Volunteers needed —
are you willing to serve as facilitator? Your role will be to
monitor the discussion, not teach, just keep the group "on track."

Give
us your feedback on this
project. E-mail us
feedback@gestalttherapy.net
(put PHG in the subject line) with
your wishes and ideas. Or contact us from our FEEDBACK
Page. This Discussion Forum needs some common energy and
like-minded enthusiasm to get off the ground — your feedback is
essential to its inception.
SHORT-TERM,
TIME LIMITED FORUMS
These
will be time-limited boards (e.g. a weekend) and will involve invited
discussion
leaders/participants. For example:
- TALK TO
THE AUTHOR —
DISCUSSION BOARDS:
An author participates in a discussion of their book on Gestalt therapy.
- BOOK
DISCUSSION BOARDS: Participants
agree on a book to read and discuss.
- TOPICS
OR AREAS OF
INTEREST DISCUSSION BOARDS:
Leader(s) interested in specific topics, e.g. coaching, working with
addictions, reconsidering " the paradoxical theory of
change," participate in a discussion of their
approach.
-
TRAINING
INSTITUTE
BOARDS:
Training Institute
staff (and students if
they wish) will lead/participate in a free-wheeling
discussion of
topic(s) of their choice. Expect stimulating interchanges,
and the Gestalt community will be exposed to the Institute's (or
individual trainer's) philosophy and approach.
- CASE
HISTORY/PEER
SUPERVISION/DISCUSSION BOARD: A
case history will be posted to the board. Either a panel of
respondents will be invited to comment on it, then the discussion
opened to all, or it will be an open discussion without the
preliminary respondents.
- GESTALT
TOWN MEETINGS
ON THE WEB: Topics
of interest to the Gestalt Community. Topic, date and time of
discussion is posted on the Theory and Practice Forum.
